Amazing and Fun Facts about the Month of July

1. The month of July got its name after Julius Caesar in year 46 BC. He died two years before and Roman senate decided to name then the fifth month in the calendar (then with ten months), then named Quintilis (he was born in Quintilis) in his honor.

Julius Caesar was not only a legendary general and statesman but he also changed the calendar from then much more confusing calendar with a so-called intercalary month to now still used calendar with 365 days and one leap day every four years. He also decided to put January and February at the beginning of the year, what actually made his birth month (named The Fifth) the seventh month of the year. Another change was an addition of ten days to the before 355 days long Roman calendar, what made all twelve months long as they are still today.

2. July always starts on the same day of the week as April in the same year. No other month ends on the same day of the week as the month of July. The only exception is January on leap years.

Being associated with wealth and power it's still considered as a stone of the kings. Ancient people believed that wearing a ruby on the left hand, closer hand to the heart, guarantees peace and safety to the wearer and his property. Books of dreams explain dreaming about rubies as a sign of success in professional life.

10. Some people believe July is not a good month for weddings.

There is an old saying:

Married in July with flowers ablaze,

Bitter-sweet memories in after days.

We couldn't find a logical reason for this belief (with an exception of having obvious difficuilties throwing a wedding party when all your friends are on vacations), but we can add it is not considered as unluckiest month of all. May is the winner in this case.
